President of NHL in 1917, named Calder Memorial Trophy after him.
Born in 1877; secretary of old National Hockey Association and became president of the newly formed National Hockey League in 1917; his astute guidance gave the N.H.L. the stature it now enjoys; to commemorate his years of service, the Calder Trophy (later the Calder Memorial Trophy) was presented; died in 1943; elected in 1947.
